Saint Francis Xavier School is dedicated to the Catholic education of students from the preschool level through grade eight. Through nurturing the academic, spiritual, social and physical development of each child, the curriculum supports and enhances the gospel values of Jesus. By embracing Catholic identity throughout all facets of learning, Saint Francis Xavier School strengthens the values that connect family, parish and community.
At the present time we ask that all emails for the office be sent to either saintfrancisx@comcast.net or kupsc@comcast.net. Also, please forward all notes to the nurse to nurseatsfx@comcast.net. The teachers will still continue to use their email addresses as listed on web site but Sister Teresa, Mrs. Kupsc and Mrs. McGillivray and Mrs. Stieb will be using only the above mentioned. We thank you in advance. MUCH DESERVED GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION We express much deserved gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Sullivan for his gift of time each day. His love and intent to have the students safe at dismissal is evidenced in his presence each day at dismissal. Along with his directing the cars of parents, he deters unofficial cars using our drive was as a through way. I know you share my appreciation to him for volunteering his time. THANK YOU MR. SULLIVAN!!
Dismissal procedures are planned and set with the safety of ALL children as our focus. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, We need EVERYONE'S cooperation and understanding. 1. Cars are to line up, one behind the other, every space filled. We have noticed spaces are not filled in succession, resulting in a back up of cars in the driveway. Mrs. Diane Walsh, volunteers her time each day to enhance the movement of cars, she needs your help. 2. Officer Barry and I have spent time, observing and planning. The present dismissal procedures have been established with safety and efficiency in mind. 3. Walkers or Riders are not to be picked up by the flagpole. Only students riding the bus are dismissed at that exit. 4.
Any student who is being picked up in a car MUST be picked up in the
back parking lot. We have noticed cars being parked up onto Pleasant
Street as well as the half circle of the home next to the church. You
MUST pull in the back lot with all the other cars that are picking up
their child/children as a RIDER. GRANDPARENTS' DAY As we all know so very well there is a very special group of people who deserve our recognition and appreciation, namely, GRANDPARENTS. Friday, May 2nd the students will give thanks for their grandparents at the 9:00 a.m. liturgy. Following the liturgy the grandparents will be invited downstairs to the cafeteria and enjoy coffee/tea and refreshments. IMPORTANT NOTES FROM THE NURSE Mrs. McGillivray and Mrs. Stieb's email address has changed, please forward all notes to the nurse to nurseatsfx@comcast.net. Just a reminder, any students receiving antibiotics cannot return to school until at least 24 hours after beginning appropriate antibiotic treatment. Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever or are obviously feeling sick. This policy is for infection control recommended by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
During May, the children will continue with the letter box. This month the letters are: Yy and Za. We will introduce Yy the week of May 5th and Zz the week of May 12th. We will review our letters and numbers the balance of the month. We will be making special Mother's Day gifts and springs projects. The children are anxious to get started! KINDERGARTEN Our class quilt is finished and on display outside the kindergarten classroom. We will also display the quilt at the graduation ceremony in June. We are getting ready for big events in May. We will be having our first ever Mother Goose Day with lots of fun activities planned. We have a special surprise in store for all the Kindergarten Moms for Mother's Day and we are also looking forward to working with the first grade as we raise our butterflies.
For enrichment the fourth grade students are reading a Newbery Award book, Charlotte's Web. Each week the students work on new vocabulary words, comprehension, and sequencing. Students are enjoying reading about the friendship and loyalty of the main characters Fern and Wilbur. In
Religion and written expression we have been writing a composition about
Kateri Tekakwitha, the first Native American Saint. The students have
been incorporating Collin's type I writing as well as the four square
template to organize their thoughts in sequential order. These techniques
have been very helpful during the writing process. They are even learning
to edit their own work. The students are doing a fantastic job!
Grade 5A students have just finished reading the Newbery Medal novel Crispin by Avi. In order to extend our understanding of the Medieval era in which the story takes place, we will be working in groups acting out plays featuring classic Middle Ages stories, legends and folktales. Grade 5B Information for May Newsletter To celebrate Earth Day on April 26, all students in Grade 5B wrote essays on saving the environment. Many students took the assignment further and submitted their work to the "What Earth Day Means to Me" essay contest sponsored by Hanover Mall. We applaud the following students, all of whom received a two-foot dogwood tree sapling for their entry: Candice

The months of May and June will offer them many memorable experiences to take with them when they graduate. On Tuesday, May 6th, bright and early in the morning, the grade 8 students will board the coach bus, wave goodbye to their families and teachers, and depart on their long-awaited class trip to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, Md. Each day of the trip will offer excitement, as well as the opportunity to tour our nation's capitol and the beautiful city of Baltimore. The days will start at 7:30 a.m. and not end until 10 or 11 p.m. During their experiences the students will visit the Peterson House, the Capitol, the Smithsonian, the National Archives, the Holocaust Museum, and, of course, all the monuments and memorials that grace Washington. They will take a river boat cruise on the Potomac, enjoy a night tour of the city and attend a dinner theater production of Showboat. They will also travel to Mt. Vernon to tour George Washington's home. Friday morning, May 9th, the class will leave Washington and travel to Baltimore. Here they will tour Camden Yards, Babe Ruth's home and the waterfront. After a lengthy stay, they will board the bus for the long journey home, arriving back at St. Francis late at night, exhausted, but filled with lifetime memories. Please keep the Class of 2008 in your thoughts during this wonderful experience. Another important event for May is the Crowning of the Blessed Mother on Friday, May 23rd, at 1:45 p.m. Please make sure to keep this time open to join the entire school in their praise of Mary.

On
Thursday, November 8, the students paid tribute to all those who so
faithfully and bravely served our country. The beauty of many patriotic
songs filled the Church, and special words of dedication to America.
All of us realized how impossible it would be to ever forget the debt
we owe to the millions of men and women who have given so freely of
themselves to keep our country safe.
