Strike Up the Band!
The SFX Band is off to an energetic start for the 2007-2008 school year! Congratulations to our new fifth graders, Victoria Butterfield and Laurel Gozzo (flute), and Candice Bonarrigo and Tony Kandalaft (clarinet). The Band meets Tuesday morning bright and early before school starts. They are making some jazzy sounds as they practice with director John Vanderpool for their first performance at the Christmas Show. Watch for veteran trumpeter Sarah Curtis as she plays "Taps" at the Veterans Day Program. Our other indispensable and rock-solid veteran players are Amanda Hajjar and Colleen MacDonald (flute and 5th grade mentors), Dave Crosby and Matt Norton (drums), and Jenna Reece (tenor sax).

Movin' and Groovin'
There is a cool new music group at St. Francis this fall called Contemporary Styles Ensemble, or CSE. It was formed to give advanced guitar, keyboard and percussion students the opportunity for a garage band experience similar to the concert band experience for woodwind and brass players. Andrew Stieb (grade 7, keyboard), Jaci Zahn (grade 8, guitar) and Matt Neville (grade 7, guitar) have been cranking out tunes and will record their first songs on CD in November. Watch for their premiere performance at SFX in the December Christmas Show! They are one "hot" group!
